Akanni Akinyemi is the pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Development at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He is a senior demographer and a Professor in the Department of Demography and Social Statistics at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, Nigeria. Since 1998, he has worked on population health, policy and developmental issues in Nigeria and many other African countries. With 26 years of professional experience, he leads demographic and public health training, research and demographic models and analysis including political economy analysis, in Nigeria, ECOWAS and other African countries. He is a visiting researcher/Professor at many institutions in Africa and beyond, including Chan School of Public Health, Harvard University, USA, University of Bristol, UK, African Centre for Migration and Society, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC), Nairobi Kenya; John Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health, The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR), University of Malta, Msida.
